Digital Diptychs Reflection

1. For this project we used the color mixer app and adobe photo shop. Photo shop was very helpful because I could see the actual numbers of the hex coding and slide the colors on color mixer to match them instead of just guessing. It was still very hard to be exact about the numbers though.
2. My skills of observation improved with the photo taking process of this project. I had to keep my eyes out for any color schemes I could find. I never realized how many colors there are around branson and found color schemes in unexpected places, like the red stop sign and the green street sign.

Reflection
1. For this project, we used paints and paintbrushes. I really liked being able to experiment with different brush sizes and styles to get varied paint applications. For the paints, enjoyed mixing the colors and getting a variety of shades.
2. I feel like my skills of observation improved with this project. I tried to take good observations of the dark and light in my paintings and I feel that it can be seen especially in my blue painting.

Shapes and composition reflection

I was drawn to this rayogram because of the varying composition. On one side, the composition is very messy and disorganized. On the other side, the composition is very simple and clean, with all the objects in one straight row. I tried to reflect balance with this piece, because the messy objects balance out the neat ones. For the objects, I tried to use objects with varying shape and level of transparency to make the rayogram more interesting.

I was drawn to this collage because of the abstractness of it and the varying levels of complexity.  At the top, there is an intricate asymmetrical spider web, and in the bottom right corner, there is a very simple, abstract, symmetrical spider. I like how the spider web at the top defines the shape as a spider. If there was no spider web, the spider wouldn't be seen as a spider because it is too abstract. I think this collage best represents balance, because it balances out intricate and simple shapes.

Develop Craft
  1. Turn light on and set aperture all the way open
  2. Turn off light
  3. Get photo paper and arrange composition on photo paper
  4. Turn light on with timer set for 8 seconds
  5. Take photo paper and put it in developer for 1-2 minutes
  6. Take photo paper out and put in stop bath for 30 seconds
  7. Put photo paper in fixer for 2-5 min.
  8. Put paper in water wash for at least 1 min
  9. Put paper in permawash for 30 sec.
  10. Put paper in water wash for 1 min
  11. Take paper out and put on drying rack to dry
Habits of Mind
I feel I did a good job with expressing images in my art work, especially in my collage. I feel I successfully expressed the spider and the web. I also feel like I did a good job expressing my ideas in my rayogram.
I struggled with developing craft. When i was making my first collage, I was having a hard time cutting out shapes that looked the way I wanted them to.

Cutout collages

My inspiration for this collage was abstract butterflies with torn off wings. This could have gone under either directional movement because all the shapes are going one way, or rhythm, because the shapes are repeated over and over with a slight variation.
I put this collage under balance, because there is the spiderweb in one corner, and the abstract spider in the other corner that balances it out.

Habits of Mind Wire Project

I felt that I did a good job at developing my craft. I was able to shape my wire into the shape that I wanted. I also felt that I did a good job with using the wire to create movement and I was pleased with how the final product turned out.
I struggled with envisioning my image. I had a hard time figuring out how I wanted to express my image with the wire. I felt like I couldn't decide how I wanted to make my image. This made making the sculpture hard for me.
